Today I will list what I believe to be 10 of our world's biggest problems. Some might be common knowledge to all but I include them because they are still a big problem in our world and it is baffling how these problems aren't solved yet.
1) Hunger. I believe hunger is one of earth's biggest problems. It is 2016 and we still hear about homeless people dying of hunger and ads on T.V stating "every six seconds a child dies of hunger". Even in the U.S which is one of the richest countries in the world their is still the problem of starving citizens. The United Nations World Food Programme provides the world with Hunger Statistics every year. In their most recent Hunger Statistic they state, "Some 795 million people in the world do not have enough food to lead a healthy active life. That's about one in nine people on earth." I think a practical implementation would be to take excess food that countries like the U.S don't use and send it to countries in need.
2) Another big problem earth has yet to solve is global warming. Global Warming has become increasingly alarming. Due to fossil fuels harming our ozone layer earth is becoming warmer and warmer. A good solution for global warming is artificial photosynthesis. Researchers at MIT have created an artificial plant that uses sunlight to create energy. This energy could potentially fuel our cars and planes etc.
3) I find college tuition a big global situation. College tuition is very expensive and not ideal for the average person. Many people find it very hard to survive adequately throughout their college years. It is very hard to find a solution to this problem since expenses must be paid to the college for teachers, fees, and fines.
4) Another big problem an Earth is animal endangerment. There are many companies (like Ivory Ella for example) that promote clothes for good causes ( in Ivory Ella's case saving the Elephants) because animals are being hunted and killed to extinction. Ivory Ella has donated 285,000 to saving elephants who have become an endangered species. Ivory Ella is just one example of organizations that exist to save animals. I think a great solution would be for a ban an animal hunting.
5) Going back to education, I think one of Earth's biggest problem is educating people. Many people go their whole lives without knowing how to write and read. This may seem unbelievable but something that many people don't know is that many people still lack education. I think there are many organizations that try to diminish this problem like Peace Corps and Teach for America. My neighbor back home joined the Peace Corps after college. She was sent to Kenya where she taught kids how to read and write. I feel that more organizations like these are a create solution to this problem.
6) Though this problem is probably the most recent and hasn't been discussed much I believe consumerism is a big problem today. People today have been breaded to fuel this need to continuously shop. The U.S even has a day dedicated to shopping: Black Friday. Though I am part of this consumerism trend and am found guilty I recognize this problem in today's world. I think a solution could be raise prices.
7) Another big problem on Earth is terrorism. I see this problem growing. Not to long ago terrorism was at its peak on 9/11 when the world watched on national television the World Trade Center go down. So many lives where lost that day and continue to be lost every day because of terrorism. We continue to fight a battle with terrorism. I believe the United Nations along with treaties will be an end to terrorism.
8) Though many people are deprived of food many are not. With that said I believe obesity is a growing world problem. In the United States alone 1 out of every 3 people is over weight. The only solution I see to this is diet and exercise (possibly a ban on junk food).
9) I think racism is a big problem today. All over the world we hear racial incidents that lead to mass shooting. In the U.S alone so many cases have been broadcasted on the news. More often than not it is of a white cop who killed a man of black color. Through education I feel that this problem could be solved.
10) My last world problem is crime. Crime takes place every day, every second all over the world. I have probably been stolen from more than I would like to believe. My purse has been stolen from at the airport and my car window has been broken into. These are just a few of the ones I can remember. It is very hard to stop crime. More laws could be in place for those who steel. Harsher laws and harsher punishments for those who steel could be an effective way to diminish crime.
Great blog entry, Andrea! I felt that you did an outstanding job listing what you felt to be some of the world's biggest problems. Hunger and obesity were two problems on my list as well. It is a shocking and very serious reality that, on one side of the world, cultures are starving but here in America, as you mentioned, one out of three people is overweight. It must be changed immediately. If you would like, you can see my post here:
