Week 15 Reading Reflection
This week we had to read an article in the Harvard Business Review. I liked the switch from a reading in Kuratko because it gives us different business perspectives. After reading the article, the biggest surprise was the gang of bad guys trying to extort money and SKS walking away from $285,000. I feel that the author, Akula, was confusing with his transitions. If I could ask the author a question it would be why did his company, SKS Microfinance, didn't think of the problem before hand. Overall I think it was an interesting read into Microfinance, I think the author was insightful and I enjoyed his examples I don't believe he was wrong about anything.
Final Reflection
1) Reflecting on the highs and lows this semester in this course was interesting. I started the semester off strong, I had every assignment written down in my planner. However, as the time passed I still wrote my assignments down but I lingered to a few days before due date to complete my assignment. This procrastination was a low point for me in this class. My high points were completing the assignment, I really enjoyed how the assignments in this class are structured. I like to write so creating my own blog was exciting.
2) The experience that I'll remember forever was the first time I tried to give an elevator pitch. I thought I "had it in the bag" but when the camera started recording I choked. However I tried again and eventually was able to present a great elevator pitch. I am really proud that I learned to not be afraid of having to speak on the spot.
3) I do see myself as an entrepreneur. I feel that I have developed the entrepreneurial mindset throughout this class. I believe everyone thinks like entrepreneurs but some just take their ideas a step further and turn it into reality.
4) I would recommend that future students now how to time manage well. This class will be good to you if you make time for it. This class has a lot of assignments and if you get lazy they will creep up on you. I would recommend buying a planner to write down all the course work for the week so that you never forget an assignment.

Elevator Pitch No. 4
For my last elevator pitch I decided I would give it my all. I worked hard to use all the criticism I received on my previous elevator pitches and make this last elevator pitch great! I tried not to seem nervous( which was one comment I received) and be direct and on topic. Hope you enjoy my elevator pitch. In my elevator pitch I mentioned that I have a website for my buisness venture "Rent A Scooter". I don't have a website but if I took my venture into reality I would have one and would use it for an elevator pitch.
Venture Concept No. 2
Good Evening Bloggers,
The business venture I have conceptualized is Rent A Scooter. I believe Rent A Scooter is a great business idea around large universities. The customers we would be attracting would be students. From the data I have collected on previous assignments on asking random students survey questions on my concept, I have come to the conclusion that transportation around campus has become a problem. According to students, parking on campus is impossible. Parking has lead to tardies in classes and parking tickets. There are many times I wish I could rent a scooter on campus to get to my destination. The feed back I received on my Venture Concept No. 1 was very helpful.
I received comments that stated that they believed that my venture concept would thrive around college towns and that it had a lot of potential. Another person commented saying that they liked my concept but suggests that I add renting bikes to my store. Almost every person commented on how expensive it is for not only students but teachers too to park on campus!
Based on the feedback I received I have thought about different ways to go about the price of Renting A Scooter. I was thinking possibly $5 on hour. I don't think that is too expensive. I also would really want to initiate the monthly membership. Those who buy a monthly membership pay less per hour than those that don't have a monthly membership. I don't know the specific cost yet for that but I think it is a good idea.

Week 14 Reading Reflection
This week we had to read chapter 3 & 4 titled The Entrepreneurial Mind-Set in Organizations-Corporate Entrepreneurship / Social Entreprenuership and the Ethical Challenges of Entrepreneurship. These chapters took me a long time to read but I learned a lot. Though both chapters were interesting to read, chapter 4 caught my attention. I love social media (Facebook, Instagram, snapchat) so I was most interested in what Kuratko had to say about social media being a great source for recognition and optimal opportunities. The biggest surprise to me in the reading was the section on environmental awareness. I think this is a great way to positively use social media to help society. I can easily think of an example of this that I encountered recently via one of my other classes. Honey bees are used to help grow a majority of the U.S crops. Honey Bee's pollinate thousands of flowers a week making them a great source for farmers. Recently honey bee's have been disappearing due to pesticides and diseases. Johnson and Johnson and Bert's Bees have used Youtube and Instagram in their campaign to save the bees!I think these companies positively used social media to help the honey bees. Moving back to the chapter, the section that confused me was ecovision. I have a couple questions for Kuratko, has any companies strive to gain recognition via social media gone south? How easy was it for the company to recover? I could not disagree with any of Kuratko's work I believe he was correct and social media is a great way to gain opportunities.
GOOGLE GOLD
My strategy to make my website have the best SEO was to make my blog interesting and appealing for readers. I wanted to make my blog posts similar to reading a short story. I tried to make my readers feel that they too were building my business venture. That was how I wanted to attract readers back to my blog. Based on my strategy I detailed, I didn't choose any keywords that I used over the course of my blog. Using Youtube to help me spread the word about my blog, didn't help me as much as I thought it would. I felt that the social media outlet didn't help gain my blog much SEO. My most viral post was The Twenty Percent, gaining a total of 7 comments and 21 views. I was very happy with this outcome. I think that The Twenty Percent gained the most traffic because of the photos I included of my home town as well as the videos. I searched in google : beauty obsessed blog business venture. I was on the first page of google! I included a screen shot of my blog in the google search page.

Very Short Interview, Part 2
Looking back on my initial interview with Mr. Mansour, I feel that the interview went well and I learned key concept on the principle of entrepreneurship. From my initial interview I learned that as an entrepreneur one must be independent to be able to pursue ones goals and dreams. One must be confident in his/her ideas as well as confident in running a company.
I was able to visit this entrepreneur again and ask him a couple questions. Here are the questions I asked as well as Mr. Mansour's answers.
Mr. Mansour: "I tried not do think about failure too much. I hoped that my product would succeed....also I had conducted a lot of research on the demand for my product. So although the failure rate is high for start up companies I relied on my research and support to follow through with my goal."
Reflection: Compared to three months ago I feel confident in the questions I asked him this time around. I know that failure is a big part of starting a company because not everything will go smoothly in the beginning.

- 1st Question:Where you confident that your first product your company produced would succeed.
- 2nd Question: Did you prepare for the possibility of your company not succeeding?

Week 13 Reading Reflection
This week in ENT3003 we had to read chapter 14 Valuation of Entrepreneurial Ventures. I thought this was an interesting read. I was surprised at the amount of questions that need to be answered when evaluating a business. I didn't think much into that side of business. It think a better way to evaluate a business is to list pros and cons because I think the valuation process is too confusing. I would like to ask the author the question of is there a special person that a company hires to do these evaluations? Also does this person return feedback to business owners? I believe Kuratko enlightened into the evaluating entrepreneurial ventures and like always I don't disagree with his work.
Celebrating Failure
In this week's blog post I will write about a time this semester where I failed. At the end of fall semester I received a admission to a spring program at UF called Retail You. Retail You is a program hosted by the Miller Retailing Center under Warrington College of Business. Every Friday the selected few must attend an 8:30 to 10 am seminar on internships for the rest of the semester. I was really interested in this program because I believed it could sharpen my skills and better help me apply for an internship next summer. However, things started turning downhill. I started attending Retail You late and then I started missing sessions all together. I wanted to be in the program but I just couldn't get up on Friday mornings and push myself to go. I wasn't taking the program seriously. During this same time I was going through some personal issues of my own. One of my family members passed away which took a toll on my every day normal behavior. This tragedy made it very hard to focus on my school work and Retail You.
Eventually, I was called in by the director of the program for a one on one meeting to talk about my absences. The director barely muttered a few sentences before I started crying. I was very grateful that the director of the program was so understanding. She brought out a box of tissues from under her desk and let me cry for as long as I needed. After a long talk she gave me a second chance to get my act together and begin attending Retail You sessions. A few weeks later I emailed her saying I would no longer be participating in the program. At that point I began to see Retail You as a failure.
This failure, like all others, took a toll on me. In was disappointed in myself that I could't get my act together and participated in the program. However I slowly started fixing my resume and applying for other opportunities around campus.
I believe failure is a way the world makes us realize we are not perfect. I believe failure is a reminder that we are human and making mistakes is part of life. Failure is hard to accept. My failure through Retail You as made me want to work hard in other programs and involve myself to develop my skills and qualifications. I feel that this class has made me handle risk taking better than I could before.

My Exit Strategy
Deciding how to go depends on the success of my business. I would personally like to sell my business Rent A Scooter to a company that would be able to continue its success and innovation as well as maintain the values and morals that are the foundation of the company. I have selected this specific type of exist because I believe others should be able to take over a company if they are interested and willing. I believe if the company or investor buying out my company has my best interests in had that it will be ok with me if I sold it. My exit strategy is purely based on what is best for the company. If I believe a company will bring innovative ideas that could further help Rent A Scooter develop.

Week 12 Reading Reflection
This week in Principles of Entrepreneurship we had to read chapter 13 in Kuratko's book and it is entitled Strategic Entrepreneurial Growth. It surprised me that so many factors have to be secured for a company to be able to have entrepreneurial growth. A company must have a plan for long run economic growth. I was confused when I saw the entrepreneurial strategy matrix. I would like to ask Kuratko a question it would examples of companies who have expanded using these techniques. As usual I never disagree with any of Kuratko's work.

Venture Concept No. 1
Venture Concept
For this assignment I wanted to take my readers back to the beginning of the class. Our first assignment on venture concepts threw me off guard. I had no idea of a business that I thought would work. I always wanted to start a bakery but in small town Gainesville, I didn't think it would hit off all that well. So I asked myself, what do Gainesvillians need? I knew that UF students always seemed to complain about parking, so that is what I decided to do my venture concept on.
After interviewing about a dozen people, I knew I had found an unmet need. Almost everyone I interviewed agreed that UF was in need of parking for students. I also learned that even faculty don't receive free parking at UF. After researching on UF's parking website faculty have to pay up to $1,188 annually to park on campus. I was astonished. It seems absurd that an employee has to pay for parking. After learning about the faculty problem of parking, I decided that my venture concept could not only help UF students but also UF employees too.
After much thought I could not think of a way to create parking on campus. Campus has a building on almost lot and no space to build a parking garage. The only solution would be off campus parking but people already do that.
Finally, an idea came to me, Rent A Scooter. Scooters are a great way for students to get around campus. However most students have cars and don't want to buy a scooter too. I think having a Rent A Scooter store across the street from UF (preferably in midtown) is a great idea. Scooters have dominated UF's environment. UF has huge spaces for scooters to park. I have many friends who have told me they are thinking about buying a scooter but don't know yet because of the price. I think Rent A Scooter is good solution and will be a hit!
Geographically, my market is contained to Gainesville. It is not common for scooters to be as popular as they are in Gainesville elsewhere. I think setting up shop in Gainesville will start Rent A Scooter. It is possible if business does well here then set up shop in other universities. Most incoming freshman buy scooter even before they their first semester begins. I think this opportunity is huge! I think that scooters will still be big on campuses for a while.
Rent A Scooter not only always customers a chance to rent a scooter for a day or up to a week but we also provide charging stations around Gainesville and campus for free charging refills. I believe electric is the future so I have decided that all Rent A Scooter scooters will be electric. I also believe that our customers will like this since they will receive free chargeable refills. For the charging stations I pictured in my mind a similar look to a gas station. The station would have several hooks to one mount and several mounts to the station. Only Rent A Scooter customers would be able to use the charging stations with a Rent A Scooter card that would be insertable to the charging station.
In addition to the chargeable stations, customers have the option for signing up with us for a monthly subscription. Each subscription would entail a year of use of Rent A Scooter, similarly to renting apartments off campus at UF. For example a Rent A Scooter monthly subscriber signed up for a years rent of scooters starting in January. So until next January, each month this subscriber will get a bill of $14 ( I don't know the real rate yet).
I believe my customers will like my service because renting from Rent A Scooter requires no maintenance or upkeep of the scooter and no requirement of refilling the gas tank. Also plenty of scooters will be available at the lot for immediate use. I believe Rent A Scooter is a win win for students and even faculty.
At this point in my life I can start a business. I have no money or assets to buy things to start a company with. I think it is a great idea for an entrepreneur who is finished college and ready to start a buisness.

Week 11 Reading Reflection
This week in ENT3003 we had to read You need an Innovation Strategy by Gary P. Piscano. In this reading, Piscano discusses why innovations fail. He says its because of a lack of innovation strategy. It was interesting to me and surprising when Piscano mentioned that companies can invest time and money but if they don't have an innovative system the odds are low of the success. Though I liked his idea of a business strategy I was confused in the paragraph were he tried to explain how the strategy would come about. I wanted to ask Piscano why he didn't label degrees in the innovation strategy idea so readers can get a better picture at what an innovation strategy looks like. I also wanted to ask why he didn't include a detailed example of a failure or success? I don't think Piscano was wrong about anything.
Amazon Whisperer
Business venture: Rent A Scooter
- The revenue drivers in my business are the scooters. My business would make money from renting the scooters we own. We would charge per hour and more for any hour exceeded.
-The next thing my customers would want is chargeable stations. The scooters we would have would all be electric. The next step we would be is a chargeable stations around campus so customers can reload their battery for free.
-My companies chargeable stations will enhance my existing service of renting a scooter. Customers will not have to worry about gas and the cost of re fueling. This improvement does not cost a dime to customers and improves their experience with my company.
-I wasn't able to find on amazon a product similar with what I'm trying to give to my customers (the chargeable stations).
-Since I could't find my product I wasn't able to find reviews.
-I would want my chargeable stations to have the name of the company Rent A Scooter in big letters so that everyone would know that it is a charging station. Each chargeable outlet would need a certain type of key so that only Rent A Scooter customers could use them.
-I think this product is a good addition to my company because it benefits our customers experience at Rent A Scooter.

Week 10 Reading Reflection
This week we had to read chapter 11 Financial Preparations for Entrepreneurial Ventures. A big chunk of preparation when opening a business goes into the financial sectors. After reading this chapter I understood the how to's of the financial side of entrepreneurship. I now understand balance sheet. I had an idea from my bank statements that I receive every month but balance sheets have a lot more to them. This was probably the most confusing to me, understanding what constitutes make up a balance sheet. I am currently takes macroeconomics and I found it surprisingly nice that I understood gross sales and net income meant. Why do some companies do these quarterly and yearly? If start up companies have a negative net income in other words they are losing money should they still continue operating? I have no disagreements with the author.
Growing My Social Capital
My entrepreneural business tackles the issue of parking on campus. I have interviewed numerous people in our assignments and have come to the conclusion that there has to be a better way to get students to class and back. I have come up with the idea of "Rent A Scooter". Students will be able to rent a scooter on campus and off to get them to their destination and back with no hassle.
I understand that to build this business I need to make partners with other business oriented folks. I need to make a friendship with one that is an expert on the business of scooters, one that is an expert on the market of scooters, and one who supplies to this industry.
Expert on this industry:
The expert I found on this industry is Spiro Katsaras. Mr Katsaras is off greek descent and holds a high level position for Battle Frog. I found Mr Katsaras in my home town of Miami after visiting a Battle Frog event. I contacted him via Facebook and he was more than willing to help me with my business venture. He helped me think of problems that will arise and how to solve them. He discussed with me customer problems and what customers won't like and what they will. He discussed about where to set up locations and if to rent or buy a location for my business. From my conversation with Mr Katsaras, I now have gained valuable information on how to start my business and the best ways at combatting problems that may arise.
Expert on the market:
For my expert I choose Mr Montesdeoca. Mr Montesdeoca graduated from the University of Florida and is currently a business manager for Siemens industries. I have contacted him through a friend and discussed with him via phone about what the market for scooters looks like. A discussion was made on how the market for scooters will look in Gainesville. He said there will be a high profit of return in this area because I am targeting the right customers. I feel that having Mr Montesdeoca in my network will enhance my market research.
Supplier to the industry:
I wasn't able to find a supplier in my specific industry but through some contacts I was able to find a supplier in the industry of mass printers and he was able to help me with questions I had. Mr Junco has a high level job in kodak and I contacted him via phone and he was able to discuss with me how he supplies his clients and the traveling that he does to secure the sale. Mr Junco graduated from FIU and worked his way up in Kodak. His discussion on what he does and how he connects with clients gave me a picture of how I should go about finding a supplier.
Feedback:
This assignment helped me reach out to others whom I know could help me in my business ventures. I tend to be shy with these assignment because I like to conquer things on my own but reaching out to people really helps. Like the popular saying goes "two minds are better than one". Reaching out to these people helped me think of all the effort and work that goes behind opening a business.

Week 9 Reading Reflection
This week in Principles of Entrepreneurship we had to read Ch. 10: Marketing Challenges for Entrepreneurship Ventures. This was a very interesting chapter. I feel that this chapter went into depth about problem new ventures face when trying to sell their product/service. What was surprising to me was the many mistaken beliefs. The belief that was most shocking to me was how research data is irrelevant. My perspective is that research data can always be relevant and useful. The most confusing section of this chapter was internet marketing. Internet marketing has many features to it that are overwhelming and confusing to me as a beginner. I would like to ask the author if marketing research has ever been false or in accurate. Another question I would like to ask the author is if marketing research as ever been tampered with? In other words has any person tricked the results to force a company to think one way. I didn't disagree with anything the author wrote about because it was the reading was all new to me and I am learning from Kuratko.
My Secret Sauce
Hello Business Bloggers!
This week I will talk about human capitol.
1) I believe my human capitol is
- my organization skills
- my hard work ethic
- my patience, my people skills
- my well roundedness.
2) Interviews:
In this interview my close friend Arielle discussed my skills. She mentioned how I am organized and hard working.
In this interview my friend Jay talked very kindly about my work ethic skills. He talked about how I was a "go getter" and how I know what I want. My friend Sebastian talked here about how I am diligent and hard working. He mentioned that I am organized and that I posses good qualities. In my second to last video I interviewed my friend Michelle who talked so lovely about me. She mentioned that I am diligent and hardworking. In my last video my friend Yazan talked about how organized I am.
3) I feel that my closest friends felt the same way about myself as I did me. I described myself as organized and hard working and so did my friends. When I am studying whether it be at the library or at the home my friends now it has to be in a clean environment studying with organized notes. There wasn't an differences in my assessment versus my friends assessment. I think my friends were correct on identifiying my skills. I would not make any corrections to my list. I am very confident in my the skills I associated with myself.

Idea Napkin No. 2
Good Morning Business Bloggers!
In todays post I will talk once more about my idea napkin.
But first I will give a short summary on who I am. My name is Andrea Gennaro and I am a second year business student at University of Florida. My ultimate goal is to have a high level position at the corporate offices of Sephora. Some might not know what Sephora is. That is ok. Sephora is a world-wide makeup store. I know that getting a high level position at Sephora will not be easy but I believe that it is something worth pursuing since it is my dream. Graduating from UF will be my first step towards achieving my goal.
Since my last idea napkin I tweaked my business opportunity. Before I was interested in creating something that offered more parking to students. However, after much thought, I couldn't see a possible solution. So I have created a new business idea. My new business idea is called Rent A Scooter. I am always wishing I could borrow a scooter but don't want the hassle of parking it at night or taking care of it. A simple short few hours borrowing a scooter is enough for me and would make my day a lot easier. This business venture would target UF students who are also in the same boat as me. I would charge an hourly fee for each scooter rented. I believe that $8 dollars an hour is an adequate amount. From interviewing students about parking, I do believe that Rent A Scooter is a good solution to parking problems that many students face. I believe Rent A Scooter is a unique opportunity that hasn't been done yet that students would love.
Reflection:
I believe that my business idea works well in all aspects of business ventures. I believe that finding a suitable hourly rate will be hard. I don't know whether students would be willing to pay $8 an hour or $6 dollars an hour. I think interviewing a couple of students would help solve this problem. From the feedback I received in Idea Napkin No.1 I believe I improved and the comments I received. From the feedback five points I received where:
1) how would my business opportunity work in the real world
2) would students want my business
3) how would I attract students
4) more specificity
5) what was the price of my venture
I incorporated my feedback into my new business venture. I believe I dressed all these problem in the above paragraph about Rent A Scooter. I look forward to reading the new comments on this idea napkin.

The Twenty Percent
In my home town of Anna Maria Island, there are many local businesses to choose from for this assignment. I choose the Sand Dollar. The Sand Dollar is a gift shop located on the island and is my favorite place to go and look for cute "beachy" things. I have post a picture to give you a feel of the store. The Sand Dollar is a local business who's owner lives on the island. The owner of the Sand Dollar did not want to be recorded but I was able to discuss with her about her company. When I asked her who her 20% she believed it to be islanders and tourists. I also believe this to be true seeing as how the store attracts islanders and tourists with its knick knacks. The owner actively tries to invest in items that she believes tourists and islanders would like. She said that because of this her sales are above the roof. She mentioned that she doesn't do any survey or ask customers about feedback.
Reflection:After interviewing the 3 customers I believe they agree with the owners predictions. It appears to be that the the entrepreneur understand the customers needs. I believe that this is why the Sand Dollar has been a thriving company for many years. There weren't any differences from what the customers stated and the entrepreneur. I am having trouble uploading my second customer interview. Blogger is stating that the file size is too big. The problem is I don't know how to make the file size smaller. I will continue to try my best and upload the video. It appears to upload the video but cut it off after a couples seconds.
Week 8 Reading Reflection
In this week's reading I learned how entrepreneurs get their companies up and running. It isn't easy to start a company. To start a company you need money and support which is what Kuratko discusses in chapter 8. I learned about investors and venture capitalists. I really enjoyed the venture capital myths and how Kuratko disproves them. I was a little confused on the venture capitalist evaluation process. I would like to ask Kuratko if he thinks the evaluation process is a good source of assessment and does he believe it to be necessary? I would like to ague with Kuratko that a person with little experience could have a brilliant idea but could be sideswiped because of the evaluation process.
Half-way Reflection
In today's blog post I will write a half-way reflection. It have been in this course (ENT3003 Principles of Entrepreneurship) for 2 months. Since beginning this course I have developed a better understanding of entrepreneurship and skills needed to achieve this title. From doing exercises in this course, like handing out money or interviewing random people for opinions, I know understand the difficulty and much effort that entrepreneurs must face everyday. I also have learned that thinking like an entrepreneur requires understanding what customers want and their demands. After getting into a customers head you can find an unmet need in society. To those who are interested in taking this course next semester, I would stress not to be nervous or hold back in an way. I would make a list of idea you think would be successful in today's society and to think of all the aspects of your ideas. The behaviors I have learned through this course is confidence, boldness, and independence. If you have a business idea that you think is great and could thrive go for it. There have been times where people weren't interested in hearing what I had to say. For example, when I was trying to complete the assignment, Free Money, there where people who looked at me and just walked away. It was difficult feeling rejection but the learning from I look forward to finding out what the last half of this course has to teach me.

Week 7 Reading Reflection
Hello Business Bloggers,
In this weeks weekly readings I read an article published in the Harvard Business Review titled Rediscovering Market Segmentation. I don't know why but it was confusing to me, even after I read it for a second time. I was surprised by the context of what I was reading. Normally, our weekly readings are mostly related to creating a business and this week we learn about the other side of business: consumers. I know that Yankelovich and Meer were introducing a new way to track and observe consumer spending. What really confused me was there new way of determining what consumers want and how they buy. I understood that the new method involved tracking household consumers spending ( specifically when the razor example was mentioned), but in general (I don't know why) but I could not follow along with the reading. I think I needed some more back ground information on the subject which is what I think the authors could have done better at. If I could ask the authors questions it would be what was wrong with the old ways of segmentation and predicting consumer habits based of that. Also, can there ever be a perfect way to tract consumer spending habits?

Elevator Pitch No. 2
Hello Buisness Bloggers!
Hope you all are having a great week! Today my blog post will include my second shot at an elevator pitch. I had my roommate record me instead of using my webcam like I did last time. From my first elevator pitch I changed a few things. I received feedback that I was nervous and shaky, and I was. In my second try at an elevator pitch I tried not to show to the camera that I was nervous. I also received feedback I could elaborate more and I tried to fix that also in my second pitch. (Please excuse my hair in the video, I was having a really bad hair day. )

Customer Interviews No. 3
In my final round of interviews I received a greater understanding of students wants on the issue. My interview process went similarly to the last two rounds of interviews. I asked the year of the student, if he/she had a car and what they thought about parking on campus. After this final round of interviews I felt that I received good enough information to draw a conclusion. I felt that from a vast majority of the students I interviewed most felt that parking was a hassle that needs to be fixed. In addition students would pay for a parking spot in a parking garage right next to or on campus.
Week 6 Reading Reflection
I was pleasantly surprised at how much I enjoyed this weeks reading. The biggest surprise to me was last week in macroeconomics we learned something similar to Porter's forces. In microeconomics we learned about how fast growing industries that make a huge profit very fast won't always stay that way because of competitors and substitutes. In Porter's five competitive strategies we learn the same thing. I really enjoyed the similarity between my two classes. Since the last chapter of macroeconomics was similar to Porter's strategies nothing confused me too much or that I disagreed with. I would like to ask the author if there is any way that due to the ability to copyright a product can you eliminate a chunk of competitors? Also has this ever worked in the past? All in all I really enjoyed this weeks reading.

Idea Napkin No. 1
Today, I am writing more in depth of me and the business opportunity I wish to pursue. First, I would like to start with a brief description of who I am. I am a second-year student at the University of Florida. I hope to graduate with a degree in Business Administration and a minor in Innovation.
My business opportunity was to find a solution to the parking conundrum on campus, on behalf of my fellow students. I feel strongly that there could be a big business opportunity in parking at UF. Though my business opportunity probably will change, it is the foundation I am working off of. If I where to start a business, I think it would take over a big junk of my life. Starting a business requires much time and effort that a college student's schedule does not allow. So, perhaps starting a business now would not be the best idea. However, I can always brainstorm. After interviewing customers and taking into consideration the limited space available at UF, I have tailored my opportunity into a more detailed foundation to work off of.
I wish to create a service that transports students to and from their apartments/pick up locations at a click of a button. This service would be at a low cost because students typically are on a tight budget. Even more important, the service would be in high demand and would attract many customers returning a profit. Customers are students that attend UF as well living in a close proximity to the university. From my interviews, it is clear that students desire better access to parking on campus in order to conveniently walk to class. I feel that this service is different from similar services like Uber because it is a set low price and is specific to University of Florida students and sponsored by University of Florida. Additionally, this service would focus on hiring UF students, since jobs for college students are usually in high demand.
Confident about this business opportunity, I recognize that there could be confounding variables affecting my service, but on a holistic level, I know my service meets the demands meet of students. I feel like many would compare my service to others like Uber but due to the short distances students would be picked up and dropped off the price would be low because of gas.

Week 5 Reading Reflection
This week in chapter 9 I learned about new venture start-ups! I think this has been the most interesting chapter so far because it teaches how to create an environment for your new venture. What stood out to be the most was the paragraph about legal issues that might arise. It is easy to see the bright side of starting a business but no one expects to be receiving law suits. The area that was slightly confusing to me was The Elements Affecting New-Venture performance. It was difficult to understand the idea where the author was trying to prevail but as I read it understood. I don't disagree with anything the author writes because I am learning from Kuratko's book. If I could ask the author a question it would be if he began any business venture that he didn't think went as he expected?
Interviewing Customers No. 2
Hey Buisness Bloggers!
In this weeks blog I did a second round of interviews for my student parking on campus opportunity. In this round I felt like I ask more questions that exemplified the emotions students felt on campus parking. After interviewing last week and this weeks interviewers I came to the conclusion that many students feel that parking on campus is a hassle and a issue that needs to be resolved. Many students feel that parking on campus should be free. Some students take the bus and feel that is working for them. Some students can't reach class on time because they are too busy looking for any available parking spot. I felt that I interviewed the right customers last time. I interviewed students that attend the University of Florida. This time however not only did I interview several students but I interviewed a former gator faculty and faculty member. I feel that this gave me a different perspective on the parking situation. Also this time I interviewed students that live off campus vs the interviewees from round one that lived in the dorms. My questions from round one where similar to my questions this round because I feel they retrieved the necessary information. After round 2 I felt that I had a good understanding of students problem with parking.

Elevator Pitch No. 1
Hello Business Bloggers!
This week I am doing an elevator pitch on my business app! My app is called KEY. It opens a car door from your phone. Many have trouble getting into their car because they can't find their car keys. KEY can get you into your car at the click of a button. KEY is an easy efficient solution to lost keys or key jams.

Week 4 Reading Reflection
Hello Buisness Bloggers!
After reading chapter 5 in our textbook I have a better understanding of innovation. This was probably my most favorite chapter in the book. Like in my previous weekly reading reflections there is nothing that I disagreed with about the Kuratko's work. If I could ask Kuratko something it would be what his best way to look for innovative opportunities is and what was his most innovative opportunity. The most confusing part of this chapter was when Kuratko discusses how our brain processes.

Customer Interviews No. 1
This week I found a campus community problem and interviewed random people on this issue.
Opportunity: Better Parking
~I believe parking is a huge problem on campus at University of Florida that has potential to be fixed due to the amount of students affected by this issue. Most students are affected by parking or know of someone who is affected by parking on campus.
~ So I interviewed University of Florida students because I felt that they were the most affected by parking on campus. I didn't interview faculty members because most if not all of the limited parking space goes to them. I understand that it is important to have parking for teachers and employees but students parking needs should not be ignored. Students have close to none parking spaces on campus.
~ I came up with a list of questions that I think would suit any random student I asked. Here are the videos of my interview.
- Do you own a car on campus?
- Would you say parking on campus is a hassle?
- on average how many classes do you miss a week?
- Do you think you would miss less classes if parking on campus was easier?
- Does parking restrict you from doing anything you would normally do?
- Would you pay for better parking on campus?
Interview #1:
~I was very nervous about interviewing customers. I could tell the interviewees were also nervous. However, after the third customer I was comfortable in asking question and I even tailored my questions specifically to whether a student owned a car or not. For example: If a student didn't own a car I asked if they knew anyone that was having trouble with parking. My questions were becoming better suiting to each person.

Top 5 World Problems
Hello Bloggers!
Last Week I listed what I believe to be 10 of our world biggest problems and possible solutions. Today from that list I will pick 5 problems from the list which I believe to be the most crucial and list them from most serious to least serious.
Here is that list:
Here is my list of top 5 solutions:
In my first list, I ranked hunger as my first problem because I think it needs to be addressed first. People are dying of hunger across the globe however countries like the U.S have an abundance of food. In fact the U.S has a problem of obesity, people in this country are eating too much food. For this reason, I put hunger as my easiest solution to implement.
I ranked terrorism my second because it continues to scare the world and fear can be detrimental. Though it was second on my first list, it is the hardest to implement. Terrorism is the result of groups of extremist who want to eliminate or hurt others. Finding these extremist groups and crushing them is hard (if it was easy we wouldn't have a problem).
Global Warming is third of my top 5 world problems list because it is so important but hunger and terrorism are current world issues ranked higher in my view. Global Warming was fourth on my list of possible to implement solutions because finding a cheap solution to global warming is extremely difficult and will take time.
Education is very important but drive to educate the world is already in place by organizations like the peace corps which is why it is second on my possible to implement list.
Animal extinction was last on my top 5 world problems not because it isn't important because it is but I found hunger and terrorism to be more urgent. And finding a solution to animal extinction was high on my implementation list because a simple law from the United Nations could impact immensely animal species.

- HUNGER
- TERRORISM
- GLOBAL WARMING
- EDUCATION
- ANIMAL EXTINCTION
Here is my list of top 5 solutions:
- I think a practical implementation for hunger would be to take excess food that countries like the U.S don't use and send it to countries in need.
- For education, if more people and organizations continue to teach children of low-income families this could possibly be a solution.
- If the United Nations worked to form a ban an endangered animal hunting, the percentage of animals becoming extinct could decline.
- A good solution for global warming is artificial photosynthesis. Researchers at MIT have created an artificial plant that uses sunlight to create energy. This energy could potentially fuel our cars and planes etc.
- Controlling terrorism would probably be the hardest to implement. A solution could be to ban bombs and guns outside governmental authority.

Week 3 Reading Reflection
Today I will talk about Chapter 2, The Entrepreneurial Mind-Set in Individuals, in Kuratko's book Entrepreneurship: Theory, Process, and Practice. I really enjoyed this chapter. I didn't really know what to expect from this chapter. I assumed it would be about entrepreneurs. Specifically, I liked that Kuratko decided to attempt to describe some of the characteristics that entrepreneurs posses, this surprised me. Here are my favorite characteristics of entrepreneurs : commitment, determination, and perseverance, tolerance for ambiguity, creativity and innovativeness, and independence.
In addition to characteristics of entrepreneurs, Kuratko discusses sources of research on entrepreneurs. Though Kuratko listed a bunch of good sources like journals and conferences, I think he missed an important resources; movies. I would like to ask Kuratko what he thinks of entrepreneur movies like The Social Network or Steve Jobs. Furthermore I would like to ask Kuratko if he thinks it is a worthy source of research on entrepreneurship. In my opinion I definitely think so. I learn more visually.
Though I don't disagree with anything Kuratko wrote, I did find something confusing. The confusing element of this chapter was the dark side of entrepreneurship. I understand that entrepreneurs are risk takers and that a business venture can be detrimental but I was confused on the Typology of Entrepreneurial Styles. I didn't understand how it was configured. I would have liked the Kurtako to go more in-depth on the typology possibly 2 examples of this in the real world. Overall I really likes this chapter and am excited to read more about what Kuratko has to say on entrepreneurs.

Very Short Interview No.1
Hello bloggers!
Today I will write about an interview I had with an entrepreneur named Mansour Mansour, founder of Javna company in Jordan. In the interview I asked him 3 questions, but before I get into the interview I want to tell you a little bit about Mr Mansour. Born in Kuwait, Mr Mansour traveled to the United States to college. Attending University of Wisconsin he majored in computer and electrical engineering. He founded Javna in 2001 and his company specializes in wireless software products. Javna has become a global company and continues to move forward.
In my interview with Mansour Mansour I asked him a total of 3 question.
1) The first question I asked him was: What does it mean to be an entrepreneur to you? Mr Mansour answered " Independence... the ability to work on my own. To work under my own theory...to set my own protocols and goals...to make the money I want to make."
2) The second question I asked was : What do you think an entrepreneur class should teach students? His answer: " The ability to sell themselves. In another words: I can't sell a business unless I sell myself. You have to have the ability to sell yourself."
3) My last question to Mr Mansour was: What was the most surprising entrepreneurial task you have had to deal with in your career? His answer: "There is two things. One is the ability to make the sale. Sale is a relative term. It could be a product or a service. The second thing is employees. Getting the employee to do exactly what you want them to do. Sometimes they don't do what you want them to do. It could be a good outcome or bad outcome."
Reflection: I found this assignment most interesting to me. It is very nice to speak with a real entrepreneur and listen to what he had to say. The most difficult part of this assignment was probably finding an entrepreneur who is able to take a part of their day to talk to you. I was lucky to find Mr Mansour. I learned from this assignment what the real triumphs and struggles of an entrepreneur are. I never thought about what it would be like to hire employees and have to dictate to them what you would like them to do.

Worlds Biggest Problems
Today I will list what I believe to be 10 of our world's biggest problems. Some might be common knowledge to all but I include them because they are still a big problem in our world and it is baffling how these problems aren't solved yet.
1) Hunger. I believe hunger is one of earth's biggest problems. It is 2016 and we still hear about homeless people dying of hunger and ads on T.V stating "every six seconds a child dies of hunger". Even in the U.S which is one of the richest countries in the world their is still the problem of starving citizens. The United Nations World Food Programme provides the world with Hunger Statistics every year. In their most recent Hunger Statistic they state, "Some 795 million people in the world do not have enough food to lead a healthy active life. That's about one in nine people on earth." I think a practical implementation would be to take excess food that countries like the U.S don't use and send it to countries in need.
2) Another big problem earth has yet to solve is global warming. Global Warming has become increasingly alarming. Due to fossil fuels harming our ozone layer earth is becoming warmer and warmer. A good solution for global warming is artificial photosynthesis. Researchers at MIT have created an artificial plant that uses sunlight to create energy. This energy could potentially fuel our cars and planes etc.
3) I find college tuition a big global situation. College tuition is very expensive and not ideal for the average person. Many people find it very hard to survive adequately throughout their college years. It is very hard to find a solution to this problem since expenses must be paid to the college for teachers, fees, and fines.
4) Another big problem an Earth is animal endangerment. There are many companies (like Ivory Ella for example) that promote clothes for good causes ( in Ivory Ella's case saving the Elephants) because animals are being hunted and killed to extinction. Ivory Ella has donated 285,000 to saving elephants who have become an endangered species. Ivory Ella is just one example of organizations that exist to save animals. I think a great solution would be for a ban an animal hunting.
5) Going back to education, I think one of Earth's biggest problem is educating people. Many people go their whole lives without knowing how to write and read. This may seem unbelievable but something that many people don't know is that many people still lack education. I think there are many organizations that try to diminish this problem like Peace Corps and Teach for America. My neighbor back home joined the Peace Corps after college. She was sent to Kenya where she taught kids how to read and write. I feel that more organizations like these are a create solution to this problem.
6) Though this problem is probably the most recent and hasn't been discussed much I believe consumerism is a big problem today. People today have been breaded to fuel this need to continuously shop. The U.S even has a day dedicated to shopping: Black Friday. Though I am part of this consumerism trend and am found guilty I recognize this problem in today's world. I think a solution could be raise prices.
7) Another big problem on Earth is terrorism. I see this problem growing. Not to long ago terrorism was at its peak on 9/11 when the world watched on national television the World Trade Center go down. So many lives where lost that day and continue to be lost every day because of terrorism. We continue to fight a battle with terrorism. I believe the United Nations along with treaties will be an end to terrorism.
8) Though many people are deprived of food many are not. With that said I believe obesity is a growing world problem. In the United States alone 1 out of every 3 people is over weight. The only solution I see to this is diet and exercise (possibly a ban on junk food).
9) I think racism is a big problem today. All over the world we hear racial incidents that lead to mass shooting. In the U.S alone so many cases have been broadcasted on the news. More often than not it is of a white cop who killed a man of black color. Through education I feel that this problem could be solved.
10) My last world problem is crime. Crime takes place every day, every second all over the world. I have probably been stolen from more than I would like to believe. My purse has been stolen from at the airport and my car window has been broken into. These are just a few of the ones I can remember. It is very hard to stop crime. More laws could be in place for those who steel. Harsher laws and harsher punishments for those who steel could be an effective way to diminish crime.

Week 2 Reading Reflection
In this blog post I will reflect on my reading from chapter 1. This chapter discusses entrepreneurship and how it came to be. What surprised me and what I liked the most in this chapter but did not expect are the 10 myths of entrepreneurship. I like that in the first chapter Kuratko put myths about entrepreneurs to rest. The myth that seemed the most outrageous and nonintellectual is "Entrepreneurs Are Doers, Not Thinkers".( Kuratko 5) It is absurd to say that entrepreneurs don't think because if anything they think more than the average person. However it saddens me to say that I have heard that phrase more often than not.
Though I don't disagree with anything Kuratko wrote, I found it confusing when author Kuratko gave a definition for entrepreneurship by Robert C. Ronstadt. In Ronstadt's definition he mentions that "Entrepreneurship is the dynamic process of creating incremental wealth". What I am confused about is why Ronstadt believes entrepreneurs base their desire for creating innovative products after money. If I where to ask the author a question it would why he believed this was a good definition of entrepreneurs. Though it might be naive of me to think that entrepreneurs base their creations off of wanting to do good for the world, it is what I believe. Take for example Akon created a company that puts light poles powered by solar panels in Africa. Akon is considered an entrepreneur after creating his company Solektra INT. If I could I would like to ask Kuratko if he knew of Akon and his company and if he believes he is a good example of an entrepreneur.

Reflection:
It was easy to initially think of little challenges we face in our everyday lives but after the first bug I wrote the rest of my list flowed naturally. I realized that I have so many little knacks that bother me. It is entrepreneurs who take knacks and turn them into a product that makes our lives easier. I hope to one day cross one or two of my bugs off my list.

Introduction
In this blog post I will write some information so that we can get acquainted. My name is Andrea Gennaro, I am 19 years old and I am a sophomore at the University of Florida. I hope to graduate in General Business Administration. I have a sister that also attends University of Florida and is graduating this spring. I will get to attend my first UF graduation and I am so excited. My sister, Daniella, is my only other sibling. She and I are really close since we grew up close in age(specifically 2 years apart). Daniella is president of WSA also known as Women's Student Association on campus. My sister is very involved in the Heavner business school on campus and I am known as mini Dani.
Together we have traveled several times to Bogota, Colombia where my mom was born and raised. When my mom was 17 years old she applied to University of Miami ( where she is an alumni) and moved to the United States. My dad moved down from Ohio where he was born and raised and met my mom in Miami. I have a very unique set of parents and I couldn't be happier! Attached is a picture of my sister who will be graduating this spring.

My Entrepreneurship Story
Growing up I have lived with an entrepreneurship father who has started two successful companies. My dad always told me he never liked working under someone, instead he liked to be the boss. For some people the security of working for a company is better than venturing off on your own. For others like my father, they see only one route: entrepreneurship. From growing up with my dad, I can vouch that it hasn't been an easy route. Without going to college he began his first company which specialized in cardio balloon catheters. For those who don't know much about the medical field (like me) these machines are used for someone who is going into cardio arrest and needs life support. My dad got lucky. In the 1990's his business was booming. He was doing so well I never got to see him. I would go months without his presence. One of my all time favorite movies is the Devil Wears Prada. If any of you are obsessed about it as I am and have memorized all the lines, you'll know this quote I'm about to write. One of the main characters Nigel speaks to Andy "Let me know when your whole life goes up in smoke. Means it's time for a promotion."
After running his first company he started a second that specializes in digital medical files though it is successful he is able to stay at home much more than he was before and he enjoys it. He truly has succeed in providing for himself and his family was sticking to his dream of being an entrepreneur. I could not be prouder.
I enrolled in ENT3003 because I have the hope it will teach me valuable lessons about entrepreneurship that I can use when I leave University of Florida. I hope to be able to see what my dad saw in it and take that into my career when I decide to. Attached is a photo of my dad and I. Hope you enjoyed this blog posts and can't wait to write to you later. Your Floridan Beauty Blogger!
